Ocean bottom seismic (OBS) continues to grow and gain market share from towed streamer. This is driven by oil and gas companies' demand for higher quality seismic data which helps them better develop and manage their reservoirs.
Unlike traditional towed streamer operations in which sensors are towed through the water column, OBS operations place sensors directly on the seafloor. The flexibility of the OBS system allows for better access to areas that are obstructed by offshore platforms, surface equipment and infrastructure. It provides unrivaled coupling to the seafloor and delivers the full azimuth, long-offset data needed to better identify and image deeper and more challenging targets.
With exclusive use of ION’s Calypso next generation VSO system, OceanGeo provides a step-change in operational efficiency. The system allows for the deployment of larger spreads and the ability to efficiently operate in both shallow and deep water, ranging from 5-2,000 m.
